Levent Ersöz, born on April 19, 1954, is a former brigadier general in the Turkish Gendarmerie and was the head of the Gendarmerie's JITEM intelligence department. He was a significant figure in the Ergenekon trials, receiving a sentence of 22 years and six months on August 5, 2013, but was released on March 11, 2014. Ersöz faced charges connected to high-profile deaths, including that of President Turgut Özal, but was found innocent and granted amnesty in March 2016.
