Liisa Kaarina Simola (June 8, 1938 – February 11, 2023) was a Finnish botanist, renowned for her work in plant physiology and anatomy. She served as a professor at the University of Helsinki from 1974 to 2001, focusing her research on developmental physiology, fungal physiology, and the effects of environmental toxins. Simola, who completed her doctoral thesis on the amino acid pool of Lathyrus species in 1968, held the position of assistant professor prior to her professorship. She was a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and a honorary member of the Finnish Society of Biology Vanamo.
