Initially inspired by rock musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Cream, he transitioned to jazz after discovering John Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme' and Miles Davis's 'Bitches Brew'. Goines has collaborated with notable artists including Sonny Rollins and Carly Simon. He moved to New York in 1977, embracing Latin music alongside jazz and rock. In 1986, he joined The Collective and became a professor at Berklee in 2008, while remaining an active session bassist.
