Lincoln Seiichi Kanai (1908–1982) was a notable Japanese American social worker who challenged the exclusion of individuals of Japanese descent from the West Coast during World War II. Born in Koloa, Hawaii, he earned his B.A. in English in 1930 and work at YMCA locations in Kauai and San Francisco. After Pearl Harbor, he advocated against the mass removal of Japanese Americans and was arrested for defying evacuation orders. After his release from a concentration camp, he continued to work with underprivileged youth until his passing in Michigan.
