She served as deputy mayor of Kristiansund from 2011 to 2015 and became the county deputy mayor of Møre og Romsdal in 2021, serving on the county council for ten years. On January 1, 2023, she took over as county mayor. A survivor of the Utøya massacre in 2011, she later shared her story in the documentary 'Generasjon Utøya' ten years after the event.
