Lotfi A. Zadeh (February 4, 1921 - September 6, 2017) was an Azerbaijani-American mathematician best known as the founder of fuzzy logic. He moved to Iran at the age of ten and later studied electrical engineering at the University of Tehran, graduating in 1942. Zadeh emigrated to the United States during World War II and earned a Ph.D. from Berkeley. He taught at the same university from 1959 until his retirement in 1991, while continuing to give lectures. His work includes research in artificial intelligence, expert systems, and neural networks.
