Louie Butler "Mbiko" Spears, Jr. is an American jazz bassist born on March 9, 1935, in Oklahoma City. He gained prominence as a member of Billy Harper's quintet. In the late 1960s, Spears collaborated with Eddie Harris and participated in the Newport Jazz Festival in 1970. Throughout his career, he has worked with notable musicians like Bobby Hutcherson, John Carter, and Horace Tapscott. He was part of Harper's quintet starting in 1979 and recorded albums with him, while also engaging in various recording sessions in the jazz genre until 2008.
