Louis Stevens was a prominent American engineer at IBM, best known as a co-developer of the first hard disk drive, the IBM 305 RAMAC, released in 1956. Born on April 25, 1925, in Post, Texas, he served as a radio technician in the US Marine Corps and later studied electrical engineering under the GI Bill. Stevens retired in 1984 after a notable career at IBM and taught computer science at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He held eight patents and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2008.
