Lü Zhengcao (1905-2009) was a prominent Chinese general in the People's Liberation Army. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1937 and fought in the Second Sino-Japanese War from 1937 to 1945, as well as the Chinese Civil War against the Kuomintang from 1945 to 1949. Prior to joining the Communists, he was an assistant to General Zhang Xueliang and witnessed the Xi'an Incident. After the Communists' victory in 1949, Lü became a key military leader and was promoted to the rank of Shang Jiang in 1955. He was the last surviving general from the early years of the PLA at his death at 104.
