Paul Gabriel Dochier, known as Frère Luc, was a monk born on January 31, 1914, in Bourg-de-Péage, France, and was murdered on April 20, 1996, in Algeria during the violent years from 1993 to 2000. He was one of seven Trappist monks killed, a tragedy that claimed around 200,000 lives. Their story inspired the acclaimed film 'Des hommes et des dieux', which won awards at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010. Frère Luc is recognized among the martyrs of Algeria.
