In 1977, he became a member of the National Assembly of Madagascar and served as its president, winning reelection in 1983 and 1989. He continued as president until the assembly's dissolution in 1991. His literary contributions included works that celebrated the oral traditions of various Malagasy ethnic groups, highlighting his commitment to preserving and promoting Malagasy culture.
