Lucille Farrier Stickel (January 11, 1915 – February 22, 2007) was an environmental toxicologist who served as the director of the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center from 1972 to 1982. Her research focused on ecological pollutants in wildlife, and her work on the effects of DDT pesticides contributed foundational knowledge to Rachel Carson's book 'Silent Spring.' Notably, Stickel was the first woman to become a scientist in the civil service of the U.S. government and the first woman to hold the position of head of a national research laboratory.
