Luís António Gaspar da Silva was a Portuguese diplomat, poet, politician, and university professor, born on June 13, 1931, in Coimbra and died on January 23, 2014, in Lisbon. He was a founding member of the Socialist Party and served as Secretary of State for Cooperation during the IX Government (1983-1985). He studied law at the University of Coimbra and was Portugal's first ambassador to India after the Carnation Revolution. He also served as ambassador to France and Italy and received several honors for his service.
