Luis Toharia Cortés (1951-2012) was a Spanish economist and professor of Economic Analysis at the University of Alcalá de Henares from 1986. He earned his degree in Economic Sciences from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1973 and completed his doctorate at MIT in 1976. Toharia published numerous works on the labor market and received the Gold Medal for Merit in Work in 2011. His research focused on labor market analysis and wage conditions in Europe, emphasizing that unemployment issues in Spain are linked more to production system characteristics than to employability factors.
