Lygia Martins Costa was a Brazilian museologist born on December 13, 1914, in Piraí, Brazil. She was instrumental in developing the first museology course in Brazil at Unirio after her technical training in museums. Lygia worked at the National Museum of Fine Arts until 1952 before joining the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Service. She played a key role in establishing the ICOM representation in Brazil and taught at universities. Awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in 2006, she passed away on July 12, 2020, at the age of 105.
