M. M. Ismail was an Indian politician and jurist who served as the acting Governor of Tamil Nadu and the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. Born on February 8, 1921, in Nagore, Tamil Nadu, he earned a mathematics degree from Presidency College and studied law at Madras Law College. Appointed as an additional judge in 1967, he later became Chief Justice in 1979. Additionally, Ismail was a notable Tamil scholar and president of Kamban Kazhagam, promoting classical Tamil literature through literary festivals.
