M. P. Saminathan is a prominent Tamil Nadu politician currently serving as the Minister for Information & Publicity in the 16th Legislative Assembly. His political career began in 1996 when he won his first election at the age of 32, defeating former minister Durai Ramasamy. He has served as the Minister for Highways and Minor Ports in the past. Saminathan achieved assembly wins in 1996, 2001, and 2006 from the Vellakoil Constituency but faced defeats in 2011 and 2016. He successfully contested and won from the Kangayam Constituency in 2021.
