M. R. Rajagopal, born on September 23, 1947, is an Indian doctor and pioneer in palliative care. He founded Pallium India, an NGO based in Kerala, and is often referred to as the 'father of palliative care in India' for his significant contributions to medicine in this field. His work led to the amendment of India's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in 2014, improving pain relief access. The Indian government honored him with the Padma Shri in 2018 and he initiated the National Program for Palliative Care.
