Manohar Singh Gill was an influential Indian bureaucrat, politician, and writer, who made significant contributions to the Indian Administrative Service. Serving from 1958 until 2001, he rose to become the 11th Chief Election Commissioner of India. After retiring, he entered politics with the Indian National Congress, representing Punjab in the Rajya Sabha from 2004 to 2016. His political career also included roles as Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports between 2008 and 2011 and as Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation in 2011.
