Maarten van Traa was a Dutch politician born on May 18, 1945, in Oegstgeest. He served in the Dutch House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) for the Labour Party (PvdA) from 1986 until his death in 1997. He is notably known for chairing the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission on Investigation Methods, also referred to as the Van Traa Commission, which was established following the controversial IRT affair. Tragically, he died in a traffic accident on October 21, 1997, on the Amsterdam Ring Road.
