S. Machendranathan is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from Tamil Nadu, born in Tirunelveli District. He completed his MBA at Cochin University before joining the Indian Police Service in 1977, and subsequently the IAS in 1979. Throughout his career, he held key positions in Tamil Nadu's government, including Collector of Thanjavur District and Secretary in various departments. He also served in the Government of India, dealing with ministries related to steel and civil aviation, as well as public sector enterprises, before retiring in March 2014.
