Shotaro Makisumi, commonly known as 'Macky', is a notable speedcuber and mathematician from Japan. Born on March 21, 1990, in Ube, Yamaguchi, he has achieved multiple world records in speedcubing. Macky graduated from Polytechnic School in Pasadena in 2008 and earned his mathematics degree from Princeton University in 2012. He completed his Ph.D. at Stanford University in 2017 and is currently a Ritt Assistant Professor at Columbia University, where he also engages in mathematics competitions and juggling.
