Madappa Prakash is an Indian astrophysicist and nuclear physicist born on December 28, 1953, in Mysore. He completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Mysore and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Bombay in 1979. His research focuses on the properties of nuclei and nuclear matter under extreme conditions, including heavy-ion collisions and neutron stars. Prakash has held academic positions at the State University of New York and Ohio University, contributing significantly to our understanding of neutron stars and their role in supernovae. He was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2001.
