Martin "Mäddel" Fuchs is a Swiss photographer born on February 3, 1951, in Zurich. He grew up in Zurich and attended grammar school from 1963 to 1970 in Trogen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden. Fuchs abandoned his law and medicine studies at the University of Zurich in 1974 to become a self-taught photographer. He worked as a photojournalist for the weekend supplement of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung from 1982 to 1986, gaining recognition for his long-term photography projects focused on agricultural and cultural traditions in Appenzellerland.
