Madhu Dandavate was an Indian socialist politician and physicist born on January 21, 1924, in Ahmadnagar, Maharashtra. He studied at the Royal Institute of Science in Bombay and taught physics at the University of Bombay from 1946 to 1971. Dandavate was politically active as a student, leading a movement for independence in Portuguese Goa in 1955. He served as a Member of Parliament from 1971 to 1990, held the position of Finance Minister and Railway Minister, and was involved in the Konkan Railway project. He passed away on November 12, 2005, in Mumbai.
