Madhu Sudan Kanungo was an influential Indian scientist specializing in gerontology and neuroscience. He made significant contributions to our understanding of gene expression changes with age, encapsulated in the widely accepted 'Gene expression theory of Aging'. Beyond his research, he was a dedicated educator, teaching molecular biology and biochemistry. In recognition of his work, he was honored with the Padma Shri award in 2005, one of India's highest civilian honors. Kanungo served as an Emeritus Professor at Banaras Hindu University and was the Chancellor of Nagaland University until his passing in 2011.
