Carmen Oliveira da Silva, known as Mãe Carmen do Gantois or Mãe Carmen de Oxalá, is a prominent Ialorixá (a priestess in Candomblé) from the Gantois Terreiro in Salvador, Brazil. Born on December 29, 1928, she is the youngest daughter of Mãe Menininha do Gantois and sister to Mãe Cleusa Millet. Since childhood, she has dedicated her life to the Candomblé religion, being initiated to serve Oxalá, her head Orixá. Following the death of Mãe Cleusa de Nanã in 1997, Mãe Carmen took over as Ialorixá, continuing the spiritual legacy of her family.
