She earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of the Philippines in 1947, followed by a Master of Science in Botany in 1951 from the same institution. She also completed a Master of Science in Pharmacy in 1955 at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and received her Doctorate in Botany from the University of Chicago in 1961.
