Mahendra I of Nepal, born on June 11, 1920, was the King of Nepal from 1955 until his death in 1972. He was the son of King Tribhuvan and was raised in the Narayanhiti Royal Palace. Mahendra married Indra Rajya Lakshmi Devi in 1940, with whom he had four sons and three daughters. After Indra's death in 1950, Mahendra married her younger sister, Ratna Rajya Lakshmi Devi, though this union did not produce any children. He was crowned king on May 2, 1956, following the reign of his father.
