Mahinda Parakrama Jayaratne was a Sri Lankan cricketer born on 11 May 1967. He played in six first-class cricket matches from the 1989/90 season to the 1992/93 season. Jayaratne's life came to a tragic end on 15 March 1997 when he was shot dead while assisting with a local election campaign. His early death cut short what could have been a promising sports career.
