Mahmoud al-Zahar is a Palestinian physician and politician born in 1945, known as a prominent leader of Hamas. He is a member of the political leadership of Hamas and served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Palestinian Tenth Government formed in March 2006 after Hamas won the elections. Al-Zahar has been imprisoned by both Israeli authorities and the Palestinian Authority, exiled to Marj al-Zuhur, and has survived multiple assassination attempts.
