Mahmudur Rahman, born on July 6, 1953, is a Bangladeshi engineer and businessman. He is also the owner of the newspaper 'Amar Desh' and served as its acting editor, during which he was arrested by the government. Since the restoration of the civilian government and the victory of the Awami League in 2008, Rahman has been a strong critic of the government through his newspaper. From 2009 to 2013, he faced over 50 cases of defamation and sedition filed by political parties and government officials. He is the only person sentenced for contempt by the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
