Mahvash Shafaei is a retired Iranian foil fencer born on May 15, 1956. She made history by becoming the first Iranian woman to win a gold medal at the Asian Fencing Championships in 1973. The following year, she achieved notable success by winning two medals at the Asian Games. Shafaei competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics, finishing 45th in the individual foil event and 9th in the team foil event. Her upbringing in a fencing family, with her brother Manouchehr actively competing and coaching her, significantly influenced her career.
