Maija Könönen is a Finnish scholar who served as a professor of Russian cultural studies at the University of Eastern Finland. She was appointed to this position for a fixed term starting January 1, 2012, until the end of 2018. Following her tenure, she led a research project exploring the cultural meanings of dementia and old age in Finnish and Russian cultures. Könönen holds an MSc in Economics, an MA in Philosophy, and a PhD in Philosophy, all earned at prominent Finnish universities. She also served as a research fellow for the Academy of Finland.
