Makoto Matsudaira was a Japanese computer engineer and cultural scholar, born on February 8, 1930, in Chiyoda, Tokyo. He graduated from Kyoto University in 1953 and worked at Japan UNISYS before becoming a professor at Rikkyo University, retiring in 1996, and later serving at Women’s Nutrition University. He earned a Ph.D. in literature from Tsukuba University in 1989 for his work on urban cultural theories and received the Kon Wajiro Prize for his book 'The Sociology of Urban Festivals' in 1990.
