Makoto Sakuma was a prominent Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force officer, born on March 18, 1935, in Kanagawa Prefecture. He served as the 18th chief of staff of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and as the 19th chairman of the Joint Staff Council. Sakuma held the rank of junior third rank. He was a significant figure in Japan’s military history until his passing on July 18, 2014.
