He represented the Ottawa Racers and competed in the 1970 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, finishing 47th in the 15 km and 44th in the 30 km events. Hunter also participated in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, where he placed 45th in the 15 km, 43rd in the 30 km, and 13th in the relay with teammates Fred Kelly, Roger Allen, and Jarl Omholt-Jensen.
