Mamikon A. Mnatsakanian (1942–2021) was an Armenian physicist known for his innovative visual approach to teaching calculus. He discovered a new proof of the Pythagorean theorem in 1959 and earned his Ph.D. in physics from Yerevan State University. He was a professor of astrophysics and a Project Associate at Project Mathematics! at Caltech. Along with Tom Apostol, he received multiple Paul R. Halmos – Lester R. Ford Awards for their co-authored book, 'New Horizons in Geometry'. He was nominated for the Ambartsumians International Prize for his contributions to theoretical astrophysics.
