Manfred Curt Hering is a German jazz saxophonist born on June 3, 1939, in Burgstädt. Initially studying mathematics, he taught himself to play the saxophone and played in various dance orchestras from 1964 to 1968. Hering later studied alto saxophone and clarinet at the Musikschule Friedrichshain from 1971 to 1972. He has collaborated with notable musicians and bands, including Irène Schweizer and Peter Kowald, and formed his own trio in the mid-1980s. Hering is recognized as one of the most prominent free improvisers from former East Germany.
