Manfred Rommel was a prominent German politician who served as the mayor of Stuttgart from 1974 to 1996. Born on December 24, 1928, he was the son of Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel. He studied law and political science after completing his Abitur in 1947. Rommel held various government positions before becoming mayor, including roles in the state administration and as a secretary of state in the finance ministry. He was highly regarded in local politics and was made an honorary citizen of Stuttgart in 1996. He also served as president of the German Association of Cities.
