Mangetsu Hanamura is a Japanese writer born on February 5, 1955, in Tokyo. After graduating from middle school, he traveled across Japan by motorcycle while working various jobs to support himself. He made his writing debut in 1989 with the novel 'Goddu bureisu monogatari,' winning the Shōsetsu-Subaru Prize for young authors. He gained further acclaim in 1998, winning the Akutagawa Prize for 'Gerumaniumu no yoru,' which was adapted into a film in 2005 by Tatsushi Ōmori. In 1999, a film was also made by Rokuro Mochizuki based on his novel 'Minazuki.'
