Manuel Antonio Avendaño Castañeda was a Colombian musician and composer born on August 25, 1934. He was blind from childhood but overcame this disability with remarkable resilience. Avendaño was a graduate of the National University of Colombia and authored over 40 choral arrangements, including the hymn of the Department of Cesar. He was married twice and had five children. He founded and directed the José Tomás Posada Choir for visually impaired individuals from 1981 to 2001, creating arrangements that celebrated Colombian folklore.
