Manuel Fontoira Surís was a Galician physician and politician, born on January 27, 1938, in Pontevedra. He studied medicine at the University of Santiago de Compostela and specialized in pediatrics. He worked in various hospitals, becoming the head of pediatrics in Pontevedra hospitals. In 1977, he was elected senator for UCD representing Pontevedra. After leaving politics in 1979, he returned to medicine and became an associate professor in 1997. He published several articles and was recognized by pediatric associations in Spain.
