Manuel Ribas i Mundó was a physician and professor of clinical pathology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 1979 until his retirement. He also served as head of the Department of Medicine at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona. Born in Salamanca on March 13, 1937, he came from a family of doctors, with his father being an otolaryngologist and his grandfather an internist and former president of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Barcelona.
