Manuel Rosales Guerrero is a Venezuelan politician, born on December 12, 1952, in Mérida. He is the founder and president of the major opposition party, Un Nuevo Tiempo. Rosales served as the governor of Zulia State from 2000 to 2008 and was also the mayor of Maracaibo for two terms, from 1995 to 2000 and 2008 to 2009. He supported the 2002 coup attempt against Hugo Chávez and faced corruption charges in 2009, leading him to flee to Peru, where he was granted political asylum. He was arrested in Venezuela in October 2015.
