Manuel Antônio Sarmanho Vargas, known as Maneco Vargas, was a Brazilian politician born on February 17, 1917, in São Borja. He was the son of former Brazilian President Getúlio Vargas. Educated as an agronomic engineer, Maneco's political career was marred by financial issues that led to scandals. He served as Secretary of Agriculture in Rio Grande do Sul and was elected Mayor of Porto Alegre in 1955. Vargas later withdrew from politics to focus on family affairs in Itaqui, where he died under tragic circumstances believed to be suicide on January 15, 1997.
