Manuel Velazquez (February 20, 1917 – April 4, 2014) was a Puerto Rican instrument maker who later lived in the United States. Initially a furniture maker, he transitioned to repairing violins and guitars before specializing in guitar making. Known as the father of American guitar-making schools, his guitars from the 1960s are highly regarded for their sound quality. In the 1970s and 1980s, he produced larger instruments to suit American preferences, which, however, lost some of the earlier quality. He returned to the smaller sizes in the late 1980s, enhancing their reputation.
