Right Reverend Manuhuia 'Manu' Augustus Bennett was a prominent New Zealand Anglican Bishop and Māori leader born on 10 February 1916. He was educated at the University of Hawaiʻi and ordained in 1940. Bennett served in various roles including a Curate, Chaplain to the New Zealand Forces, and a Māori Missionary. He became Suffragan Bishop of Aotearoa in 1951 and served as Bishop from 1968 to 1981. In addition, he was a member of the Waitangi Tribunal from 1986 until 1997, advocating for Māori rights and issues until his death on 20 December 2001.
