He earned the title of Doctor of Medical Sciences in 1968 and became a professor in 1970. Vartanyan was recognized for his contributions to his field and was elected as an academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1988. He passed away on October 13, 1993, in Moscow, Russia.
