Marc Bekoff is a distinguished emeritus professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado Boulder, born on September 6, 1945. He is a fellow of the Animal Behavior Society and a former Guggenheim fellow. An international speaker on animal behavior, cognitive ethology, and behavioral ecology, Bekoff writes a scientific column on animal emotions for Psychology Today. He co-founded Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and is an advocate for compassionate conservation. Bekoff is a vegetarian and supports campaigns against exotic pet trade as well as the use of nonhuman animals in circuses and zoos.
